A Great Golf Benefit

I went to a benefit golf tournament tonight with Mary and Jamie. We went there to support our friend, who's husband died 8 years ago and the golf tournament honors him. It was so surreal to be sitting there, listening to the MC talk about this guy I knew in college. We sat in classes together, saw each other at frat parties and I saw him play numerous baseball games. I never dated him or anything, he was just an incredibly nice guy. Years later, after he finished playing college ball, he started coaching college ball. He married his beautiful bride and they had a gorgeous darling of a little girl. Soon after that, he started feeling sick and died of colon cancer before his daughter turned one year old. He left quite a legacy behind, in fact there is a ballpark named after him.
This tournament not only honored him, but benefited the high school that he had attended by providing scholarships. Also, it provided scholarships to the local children's hospital, allowing child patients to leave the hospital and go to a specially equipped camp to feel 'like a kid'. What a great opportunity to honor a wonderful man and his heart for kids!
